Wii Sports

Wii Sports is a fantastic alternative to regular video games where you are sitting down and are only using your hands and fingers to play games. Wii Sports uses the controller and the body to simulate real sports. This technique of video play for the Wii Sports not only gets the body moving but it also teaches important sport skills that can be learned and brought out to the field during Physical Education. I have never been a big fan of video games because of the inactivity that goes along with them, but the Wii has broke the mold to incorporate activity and sport skills.

Tennis

Tennis on the Wii is one of my favorite games to play. To begin you swing the remote up as if you are throwing the ball to serve and then you swing the remote down to hit the ball. You can also use the A button as well to serve the ball. To hit the ball when it is in play you swing the remote just like a racket for forehand (right side to center) and backhand (left side to center) shots. The timing of your stroke determines the direction the ball travels.

Baseball

Baseball on the Wii is also very close to the real thing. You hold the remote with both hands just like you would a baseball bat. Hold it so the button side faces toward you. Swing the remote as the ball crosses the plate just like in real baseball. For pitching hold the Wii remote in your pitching hand and swing down the Wii remote as if you would throw the ball. The speed that you swing the remote will determine the speed of the pitch. The remote will also throw different pitches depending on what button you push during the swinging of the remote. None will throw a fastball, A will throw a screwball, B will throw a curveball and A+B will throw a splitter.

Bowling

To bowl with the remote hold it in your throwing hand raise the remote to your chest holding the B button and swing back. Swing as if you are rolling a real bowling ball and release the B button at the bottom of your swing. You can also twist the remote as you are swinging to give the ball spin.

Golf

To play golf you hold the remote with both hands just like you would a golf club. You swing the remote just like you would a golf club holding the A button and pointing the button-side of the remote away from your body. You have to control the speed of your swing to match the meter on the screen. If you swing too hard you will slice or hook your shot. If you swing to slow your shot will come up short. Putting is just like putting in real golf. Hold the remote as you would a putter and swing softly or slightly harder, depending on your distance from the hole.

BOXING

To box you use both the Wii remote and nunchuk. When two fighters fight against each other, each player needs both remote and nunchuk. Each match has three one-minute rounds. The first player to be knocked out loses. If no one wins after three rounds, the winner is declared by judge’s decision. To block you need to hold the remote and nunchuk up in front of your face. To punch you simply swing your arms forward with either remote. If you want to aim at the head, simply punch forward. To aim at the body punch downward. To move, rock your body left or right while holding the two remotes up in front of you. This game is probably the best on Wii sports for a work out.
