Intervention
- play music in class for 1 week (5 consecutive class meetings)
- music playing as students come in and for the very beginning of class
- play music during independent work and/or group work
- students with ipods need to shut them off
- students are prompted to stay quiet enough so the teacher can hear the music
- the rest of the class is as normal as possible
- If students ask about the music - "I just wanted to try something new"
Control
- If there are two evenly matched classes
- have a class that does not use music for 1 week (or 5 days)
- OR test students without music first and with music after
