Learners Own Efforts

"In his teaching, [the superior man] leads and does not drag; he strengthens and does not discourage; he opens the way, but does not conduct to the end without the learners own efforts."

--Confucius relies on the self-motivation of the learner. He exerts that the teacher needs to be a willing guide who encourages the thoughtfulness and the ideas of the learner with encouragement by providing a nurturing, safe environment for the learner. However, the teacher must keep in mind that there learner must accomplish their goals (of learning) on their own.
