The games are broken down by language, and each category offers various fun ways for elementary-age children to begin to learn other languages.

These include 12-week beginning lessons, a section containing “essential phrases”, and teacher’s resources. Quick Fix offers essential phrases in 36 languages with audio. Students can then log on study the words, test themselves, and play fun games with the words. The website is incredibly user-friendly for both teachers and students. The website is very organized and updated monthly for new ideas like nutrition lessons for nutrition month, or ideas for incorporating the census in the classroom. They can finish the poem, name the poem, and play a memory game, among others. It is a good resource for teachers too with printable materials and downloads.

The students choose a picture (there are seven available) and words to go with it. They have to practice the spelling of the words chosen and then use it on a story inspired by the picture. I usually use it as extra credit homework or as an activity for early finishers. Make sure to allow enough time for the students to work on it because they can’t save it. This activity requires Shockwave.

It is good for young kids because it condenses the information and makes it easy and accessible. Students can find information about countries, states, people, science, and much more. Students can also use the homework center, the available atlas, and the weekly features. It is a very useful site.

Teachers can share projects, resources, and experiences. They can also register their students to exchange emails with another classroom. The messages can be monitored by the teacher. It is a great way to connect students with other kids from around the world while giving them a chance to explore other countries and cultures.

There are four different levels and a lot of music and graphics to keep all students engaged. In each stage animals give the directions of how to use hands and fingers correctly to type fast and accurately. It is actually fun for adults too who want to improve their typing skills.

Just click on interactive resources on the left of the site and you can find the online activities. Two of my favorites are Construct-a-Word for Kinder and Trade Card Maker for 4th, 5th, and 6th. The last one can be used to make characters trade cards after the class reads a book. The students really enjoy this activity. It is also a great site for teacher resources, including many print outs.

There are word searches, math puzzles, criss-cross, and other puzzles that can be created. On the top of the website, there is a tab named “Home Resources.” If you click this tab, then there is a series of subjects that come out including math, science, English, social studies, and other educational information given. For example, if you click math, then math subtopics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division come up. Under each subtopic, there is a long list of more specific math topics. Each specific math topic is a video or demonstration of how to do that lesson. This website is great for students who need help on their homework.


Discipline: Reading/ Language Arts Grade Level: Primary K-3 Web Site Address: http://www.starfall.com/ Description: This website is great for the young learners. (now including kindergarten) This website helps motivate children to read using phonics. Their systematic phonics approach, in conjunction with phonemic awareness practice is perfect for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, special education, homeschool, and English language development (ELD, ELL, ESL). There are four levels; 1. ABC's, 2.Learn to Read, 3. It's fun to read, and 4. I'm reading. What I like about Starfall is that children enjoy it and I feel it is the most educational approach to a website for students. There are no "filler games" and still plenty of options. Students can do things from practicing ABC's to calendar to monthly holiday assignments. There are also plenty of resources for teachers and parents. Subscription is free! (Nicole Warner)

This site follows the California State Content Standards. When you enter the site you can choose from Educator, Teacher, or Family. This is great because it involve parents with the curriculum. You pick the subject matter you are looking for, language arts, math, ect... then the grade level. You can do story/theme specific lessons. This is great for teachers who need more resources, for example, bilingual education, current events, graphic organizers. etc... It is also ideal for students who need extra support and those parents who want to do more at home. You can track with the classroom curriculum and add to you teaching plan. Great tool. Description: This site focuses mainly on Language Arts since it is a site run by a publisher, Scholastic. However, it does also have some resources for other subjects. The site offers activity ideas for all grades, but the best utility and biggest drawback of the site are the printables and minibooks. Description: This interactive software is a great resource for beginning and intermediate levels of Spanish. This website would also be useful as review and practice for Spanish for Spanish Speakers level. The students have an interactive instructor to guide them throughout the 30 entire lessons. Students are exposed to dialogues in the outside world (e.g. restaurants, stores)Subtitles in English and Spanish go right along with the recordings. Students review each and every part of the lesson with the instructor to clarify the meaning. Students have a variety of activities to review the vocabulary and phrases(e.g matching, type in the word, type the word or phrase you heard) The section that I recommend the most is the part in the instruction where students record themselves and form part of the dialogue scene they were introduced at the beginning.

It includes grammar and dictionary that links you with Reference.com. It also has travel information, news and contact with native speakers. This website has topics that are more appropriate for students from 7 to 12 grades. The contents are divided in three levels that are beginners, intermediate, and advance. It also connects students with young people in Spain.

Description: Across the top of the home page, the site has a links to Games, Videos, Sesame Playlists, Muppets, and My Street. Your mouse sparkles when it passes over some links on the page and Elmo describes where each of the links on the home page redirects you. I selected games, and then was able pick a game by character, subject, or theme. In total, there are eight pages of games, with about nine games on each page. I selected Spanish language as my subject and then "Cooking with Rosita," which was the only option. The game facilitated cooking (learning cooking words), and counting in Spanish.

It has a lot of great resources to learn not only different languages but all type of topics. The topic I concentrated on was SPANISH this site has great interactive games where students can learn new words, phrases, and all types o grammar rules. The feedback is that you can received scores for your advancement. There are also several tests that measure your advancement , it is a great site.
