About ALN

Welcome to the Algebra Learning Network.  This is a site for Algebra teachers to talk with each other and contribute to a shared knowledge base of resources and ideas to better teach algebra and related subject.  Feel free to look around the site.  To participate in the discussions you will need to register (teachers only).  ALN is maintained with Cal State Northridge’s College of Education in an effort to use the web to support better instruction.  ALN is not supported by any school district, union or company, so we wont try to sell you anything.  We might ask you to participate in surveys or research projects from time to time. Several types of people may be interested in ALN.

Guests: Anyone can browse the open discussions and public wiki pages.  These resources can be linked to other sites as well. Guest browsing is not allowed on the restricted pages (teachers only) and guests are not allowed to post comments.

Registered Teachers: Registration on the site is free (Note: ALN will open for registration this summer).  All we ask is that you provide some simple contact information (including school name).  This allows us to verify that only teachers are using the restricted portion of the site.  All comments on personal and restricted pages on this board are considered confidential.  We do require participants to consent to their comments and posts being studied for research on developing teacher tools.  Any reference to work on the site will be made anonymously.

Site Monitors
:  Some teachers have volunteered to help us maintain the site including approving new users, posting news about upcoming events and technical support.  If you are interested in this, contact the site administrators.

Researchers:  This site is part of an ongoing project on using the web for informal professional development (i.e. helping teachers do their work without useless meetings).  If you are interested in learning more about this research contact Prof. Brian Foley
